By now, you’ve seen some of the harrowing videos scattered across social media showing the stranded pets, wildlife, and displaced animals in the wakes of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. These hurricanes wreaked havoc on millions of people from the Caribbean to Louisiana, and although there is still much to be done with regards to donations and community rebuilding, there are thousands of pets that have been separated from their loving owners.
Here at SocialMe Media, we’re teaming up with Websites While U Wait using Mysite.pet to do something about it. There are 1.4 billion people on Facebook every single day, which means making a web page for these lost critters is an incredibly effective start to reuniting pets with their owners.
These pages will be custom tailored to the missing pet, including photos, videos, and information that is unique to them. The free web pages will also come with hosting for 1-year to ensure that these pets stand the best possible chance to return back home.
Social media is a powerful tool at our fingertips today. If you saw the “Safety Checkpoint” feature of Facebook in action during these storms, you probably realized that social media is being used more than 911 for families and friends affected by disasters.
We want to ensure this kind of channel is set up for the animals, too.
Volunteers are shipping pets up north to get them out of the flooding, which is why they need our digital help to make a connection with their families that are thousands of miles away.
If you know anyone affected by these storms, please do not hesitate to send them our way. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Help us bring these displaced pets back home.
